Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Reaffirming The Grateful Dead

First, what a great and excellent thing this Grok has turned out to be, despite the seeming low turnout. I just want to express that i am so very thankful for what the Grateful Dead, in all its incarnations, have given the world. One might wish they had done this, or done that, or didn't do this or that, but at the end of the day, name me the band that did as much musically, socially, culturally, etc., than what they did in their 30 years of existence. I guess what i am trying to say is that, for the life of me, i can't imagine another band 'out there' who eleven years after their demise, a number of their fans gather together for the purpose of trying to effect some positive change, or at the very least, bringing together like-minded persons, whatever their individual philosophies, to harmonize on a level that gravitates only toward the good. We all here have had our disagreements, our misunderstandings, our rants, our feedbacks, and all our input and opinions and words, but at the end of the day, it really is about the music and what that music brings us, where it takes us, and what we do with those feelings which the music engenders in each of us. I've found and made some friends on this forum and it's been only the better for me because of it. Regardless of whether we are 'deadheads' or not, there are people in the world, right now, who for whatever reason, need a positive thought, need our prayers, our words. Am i too bold in stating that the Grateful Dead did gather certain folks who share that desire to reach out and at least always do the best we can? Perhaps we/they are fewer in number, or more than we even imagine, but it's a start. And the Grateful Dead, whatever we might think of the individual members, put the train in motion. We can ride that journey forward, or hop off. It's a matter of choice. But for me, i'm glad i found that train ride again. Peace all.

Very well said, thank you. A peaceful new year to you all with lots of wonderful musical moments. And thanks to many of you for helping me to find many of those moments in this last year.

Arbuthnot. I just read your, oh-so-kind and thoughtful post while the boys sang AWBYG. I could not agree more!

The world is a better place because of the Grateful Dead. They, and we(the fans), are oft mis-understood. You know the stereo-types, we all do. But, from this day forward, this gathering will be my new 'Best Show Story'. And I saw some good ones, as did all of you!

AND, you guys have re-defined what I call a Deadhead. We've just grown-up, and I think that's the tops!

Thanks again Arbuthnot. Sorry, I totally forgot the who, what where, when on the 9/19/70. I really appreciate you keeping me in mind. You are, obviously, more organized than I.

I've got your address and a few ideas...
